Why Following The Atkins Diet Could Be The Ideal Way To Lose Weight
The Atkins diet is a low-carbohydrate diet developed by Dr. Robert C. Atkins and is founded upon the assumption that eating too many carbohydrates leads to gains in weight. The Atkins diet is based upon the concept because the body burns carbs before fat for energy, reducing carbohydrates and eating increased quantities of protein and fat will lead on to weight loss. When carbohydrate intake is reduced, the body starts to burn stored body fat.
When carbohydrate intake is reduced to a small bit of the diet, the body enters a state called ketosis. Ketosis happens when the body gets power from fuel, called ketones, created by the breakdown of excess fat. An individual whose body is in ketosis feels less hungry. This reduced appetite causes the person to eat a little less. Atkins claims that over the course of time after excess fat is burned, the body’s metabolism returns to normal.
To follow the Atkins diet, most people must consume less than 40 grams of carbohydrates every day. For the first two weeks, carbs are constrained to only 20 grams per day. No fruits could be eaten, and just a couple of leafy green vegetables are authorized. This harsh limitation is supposed to kick start weight loss. Though carbohydrates are counted, calories aren't counted.
After the first 2 weeks, the carbohydrate limit is increased thru foods high in fiber. Fruits, plants and whole grains may be added into the diet slowly so long as weight loss continues. White sugar, milk, white rice, white flout pasta, white potatoes, and white bread remain forbidden for so long as weight loss upkeep is desired.
Once a person achieves the desired weight-loss, individuals continue to consume carbohydrates at a level that permits them to maintain their weight. The change to a maintenance diet is gentle, allowing people to become accustomed to a new way of eating that lasts for life. As the Atkins diet is focused on developing new food habits, rather than limiting calories, some people find it easier to maintain long term weight loss following this plan.
